Should you file a property tax appeal?
Property Tax appeals in Arizona can be filed on any real estate including a home, ranch, vacant land, apartment building, commercial, industrial, or special use property. In every jurisdiction real property taxes can be contested. The assessor’s offices in Arizona use mass appraisal systems that often do not account for the unique issues of individual parcels or may not adequately address market conditions for a particular area. If your property had recently been assessed and you believe the assessment is in error, we encourage you to contact us to discuss your options.
As your assessment notice advises, you have a very limited time under Arizona law to challenge an assessment, whether through the administrative process or by appeal to the courts. Be aware, too, that in some jurisdictions properties are not re-evaluated every year. This means a high assessment could result in multiple years of excess tax payments. So, if you have concerns about your assessment we encourage you to consult and obtain an evaluation as soon as possible.
